Personal
Statement: My style of therapy is much different than
traditional therapists. For example, instead of asking a lot of
"Hmm, and how does that make you feel?" question, I use a
very "direct approach" to work with patients. That is, I
am interactive, animated, and I provide real feedback and real
options. I'm not afraid of helping patients to work through issues
by providing honest feedback because I have found that this works
much more quickly than "traditional" treatments.
Of course, in my work, I use a variety of known and proven therapy
approaches including, but not limited to, cognitive and behavioral
treatment, insight-oriented treatment, and at times spirituality
work and/or hypnosis/relaxation.
So what does all of that mean? Well, I help patients to correct
negative self perceptions that may be contributing to their
symptoms. I also design a hierarchy of "safe risks" that
the patient can take with my guidance to break maladaptive
behavioral patterns leading to or maintaining symptoms or struggles
in their lives. I also provide insight as to where symptoms may have
originated without "blaming" anyone; I find blaming to be
counterproductive to achieving goals.
When patients are interested, I also combine spirituality and
hypnosis/relaxation into my treatment regimen. I find that most
patients see immediate results within a few sessions while they
establish life-altering change within about 6 months.
