Personal Statement: Life
can be very difficult and painful at times, and I have great respect
for people’s suffering and their desire to make changes. I see
people in a holistic manner. Whatever challenges life brings, people
bring their history with them as they face those difficult times. I
help people overcome blockages, deal with anger they do not
understand, and overcome fear, guilt, and shame, and adapt to life
transitions. I help people understand themselves and others to
become more empowered and to make effective choices.
My specialties include depression,
anxiety, perfectionism, feelings of inferiority, and difficulties
with relationships. I have treated many people who have survived
difficult childhoods and/or disruption, including adoption issues
(adoptive parents and adult adoptees), and people with recent or
long-past trauma and loss. I help people identify conflicts within
themselves that limit choices and can lead to negative patterns.
I create a safe, respectful, and
caring environment to help people achieve self-understanding and
empowerment, and move toward balance. In looking at the whole
person, I consider cultural-ethnic issues, family dynamics, and am
respectful of different lifestyles.
